2016 Baptist Health Research Summit: Bringing Cancer Research to the Community

Miami , FL US
November 5, 2016

The opening of the Miami Cancer Institute will usher in a new era of cancer care for the South Florida community. Data indicates that about 85% percent of cancer patients are treated in the community, and despite being medically eligible, are not offered a therapeutic clinical trial with a novel treatment otherwise not available.  This results in a rate of 2 to 3% current clinical trial participation among adults with cancer.  This rate is even lower among racial and ethnic minorities.  The Center for Research & Grants has invited experts from the Carolinas HealthCare System’s Levine Cancer Institute and Baptist Health South Florida’s Miami Cancer Institute to discuss the challenges and opportunities for introducing progressive cancer research and advanced oncology therapies to the community.
