The 2026 Palliative Care and Hospice Symposium will promote evidence-based practice, highlighting the significance of palliative care and hospice interventions by incorporating current research and best practices into patient care for vulnerable populations. Healthcare professionals will learn how to enhance the quality of care, aid in symptom management and support quality of life by working within interdisciplinary teams to address the complex needs of patients and their support systems, while also learning the art of implementing effective communication into daily practice with patients, families and colleagues.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this symposium, participants should be better able to:

  • Apply evidence-based pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic strategies to manage symptoms and adjust treatment plans based on disease trajectory and patient response.
  • Provide culturally sensitive, holistic care that addresses the physical, emotional, spiritual, and social needs of patients and families.
  • Demonstrate effective, empathetic, and culturally sensitive communication with patients, families, and care teams in palliative and end-of-life care.
  • Enhance interdisciplinary collaboration and communication skills for managing difficult conversations and facilitating advance care planning.
  • Develop individualized, patient- and family-centered care plans that align with patient goals, values, and stage of illness.
