The Marcus Neuroscience Institute Brain and Spine Symposium is a two-day academic event designed to assist attendees in expanding their knowledge of the latest advances in the field of neuroscience through didactic lectures, interactive panel discussions and case-based presentations.

The expert faculty will discuss the latest evidence-based practices in the care of brain and spine surgeries, interventional pain management, neurodegenerative diseases, multiple sclerosis, movement disorders, epilepsy, and many more topics in the neurosciences.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this symposium, participants should be better able to:

  • Identify different therapies for conservative management of chronic neck and back pain.
  • Discuss the emerging technologies being developed for complex spine surgery.
  • Describe how artificial intelligence can be used for preoperative planning and customized patient implants.
  • Describe how augmented reality guidance systems can be used to increase intraoperative accuracy, advance minimally invasive surgeries and improve patient safety.
  • Discuss the rationale, advances, surgical tips and complications associated with complex spine surgeries, as well as address challenges related to patient selection and recovery.
  • Discuss healthcare economics associated with disc replacements and fusions.
  • Explain the role of a comprehensive multimodal team approach in the management of postoperative pain.
  • Discuss new strategies and roadblocks to avoid when developing a comprehensive spine center.
  • Describe the differences between cortical and subcortical dementia and identify new diagnostics and treatments for dementia.
  • Discuss essential tremor and the use of high-intensity focused ultrasound to manage tremors.
  • Discuss new updates in the care of patients with multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease.
  • Describe the role of neuropsychological testing in neurological patients.
  • Identify new medications for epilepsy patients and updates of epilepsy management.
  • Discuss the collaborative management and options of patients with brain tumors.
