ForwardIan Nisonson, M.D., Autism Spectrum Conference Series: Genetics and Precision Health in Autism and Related Neurodevelopmental Disorders
This year’s Annual Autism Spectrum Lecture will feature Shafali S. Jeste, M.D., Professor and Mattel Executive Endowed Chair in the Department of Pediatrics. The presentation will address the significant variability in genetic testing and subsequent clinical follow-up for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), with particular emphasis on children with profound autism.
The presentation will provide practitioners with evidence-based guidance on current recommendations for genetic testing, interpretation and follow-up of genetic findings, clinical surveillance, and diagnostic and management considerations. In addition, the lecture will address common misconceptions and misinformation surrounding clinical trials in autism and provide an overview of the current state of the field, including emerging treatment approaches and the role of genetic findings in research.
Participants will gain a clearer understanding of evidence-based pathways for genetic evaluation and ongoing clinical care, as well as current developments in autism clinical trials, supporting the translation of emerging research findings into informed clinical practice.

Learning Objectives
- Improve diagnostic and clinical decision-making by applying evidence-based considerations when evaluating and managing children with autism, including those with profound autism.
- Increase awareness of the current state of autism clinical trials and distinguish evidence-based information from common misconceptions and misinformation.
- Change practice by incorporating appropriate genetic testing, follow-up pathways and evidence-based counseling regarding clinical trials into the care of children with autism and their families.
