MCVI Grand Rounds – Obstructive Sleep Apnea: An Affair of the Heart?

March 2, 2022

Although obstructive sleep apnea and cardiovascular disease have common risk factors, studies show that sleep apnea increases risks for cardiovascular disease independent of individuals' demographic characteristics or risk markers. Join us to hear Dr. Harneet Walia, director of Sleep Medicine and Continuous Improvement at Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, discuss the candidate intermediate pathways that mediate obstructive sleep apnea with cardiovascular disease and the implications for treatment options.

Target Audience

Cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, echocardiographers, pulmonologists, hematologists, general internists, primary care physicians, intensivists, emergency medicine physicians, hospitalists, nurses, pharmacists and techs, respiratory technologists and other interested healthcare providers.

Learning Objectives

  • Analyze the evidence supporting the association between obstructive sleep apnea and cardiovascular disease.
  • Identify the candidate intermediate pathways that mediate obstructive sleep apnea with cardiovascular disease and the implications for treatment options.
