Stroke is one of the leading causes of death in the United States and results in more serious long-term disabilities than any other disease. Please join us for our NIH Stroke Hands-On Training at Homestead Hospital. 

Target Audience

Medical Doctor, Physician Assistant, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse

Learning Objectives

  • Recognize the NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and purpose of each part of the exam as it relates to the portion of the brain being tested.
  • Identify acute stroke symptoms utilizing FAST-ED.
  • Explain the purpose of administering the NIHSS.
  • Perform and score an NIHSS exam on a volunteer “patient.”
