Our May 21 Conversations in Ethics lecture series welcomes M. Sara Rosenthal, Ph.D., professor of bioethics and founding director of the University of Kentucky’s bioethics program.
The lecture will explore the ethical, legal and social issues raised by the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in relation to clinical trials, drug distribution and vaccine development during a public health emergency. By examining historical precedents and ethical frameworks, the course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the complexities involved in public health crises and the ethical decisions that must be made.
As the COVID-19 pandemic has led to an overwhelming loss of life, the world has been forced to respond with unprecedented urgency. In the rush to develop effective treatments and vaccines, questions of ethics, risk and fairness have become central. This course will delve into these challenges, exploring how society can balance the urgent need for action with the obligation to uphold ethical principles.
