HWCI Radiation Oncology Grand Rounds: Evolving Landscape of Theranostics
Theranostics is rapidly evolving from a relatively small number of established radiopharmaceutical therapies into a broader precision oncology platform encompassing new disease settings, molecular targets, radionuclides, combination strategies, and increasingly sophisticated approaches to patient selection and treatment personalization. This presentation will review the current clinical landscape and emerging pipeline while drawing on experience from a high-volume theranostics and early-phase clinical trials program to illustrate the infrastructure, multidisciplinary workforce, and operational models needed to successfully translate innovation into patient care. The discussion will also highlight opportunities for radiation oncologists to play an expanding role in the field's continued evolution.
Target Audience
Radiation Oncologists, Medical Oncologists, Oncology Surgeons, Physicists, Radiation Therapists and Radiologists
Learning Objectives
- Evaluate the evolving landscape of theranostics, including currently FDA-approved radiopharmaceutical therapies, emerging molecular targets, novel radionuclides, and key clinical trials shaping the future of cancer care.
- Apply theranostics principles within multidisciplinary oncology practice by identifying appropriate patients, optimizing treatment sequencing, incorporating molecular imaging, and collaborating across radiation oncology, nuclear medicine, medical oncology, and other specialties.
- Assess the infrastructure, workforce, and clinical research capabilities required to build and scale a successful theranostics program, including strategies to support early-phase, first-in-human, and first-in-world radiopharmaceutical trials.
