COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery are continuously evolving subspecialties within surgery. This core conference serves as a didactic forum to discuss core topics selected by the Fellowship Council, American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and to ensure that up to date, evidence-based practices are being carried out by our institution.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Surgeons, PAs, and APRNs in the Department of Surgery

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Identify appropriate approaches to the core topics in general and bariatric surgery as outlined by the ASMBS and the Fellowship Council.
  • Utilize the current evidence-based practices in treating the core topics outlined by the Fellowship Council and the ASMBS for Fellowship Certification. 
  • Address gaps in experience and technical knowledge in advanced minimally invasive and bariatric surgical approaches to the core topics outlined by the Fellowship Council and ASMBS.
  • Gain in-depth understanding of: 1) the operative indications; 2) preoperative preparation of patients for the conditions in the core topics outlined by the ASMBS and the Fellowship Council; 3) the various appropriate surgical options; 4) how to avoid intraoperative complications; 5) and how to promptly recognize and treat perioperative complications in the core topics outlined by the ASMBS and Fellowship Council.
