Miami Cancer Institute Multispecialty Grand Rounds: MR-Guided Radiation Therapy: Transforming The Paradigm for Pancreas Cancer

September 9, 2024

MRI-guided radiotherapy (MRgRT) is a novel approach that was developed to overcome key challenges of conventional radiotherapy (RT). 1 Modern MRgRT systems represent the current state of the art regarding image guidance for soft tissue targets and couple an MRI scanner with a linear accelerator (LINAC), enabling clinicians to visualize internal anatomy with excellent soft tissue contrast directly before treatment delivery.
During this grand rounds Michael Chuong, M.D. will discuss technical limitations of standard linear accelerators in delivering ablative radiation dose for pancreatic cancer.

Target Audience

Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, Hematology Oncologists, Radiation Therapists, Endocrinologists, Pulmonologists, Otolaryngologists,  General Surgeons, General Practitioners, Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Nurses, Social Workers, Patient Navigators and all other interested healthcare professionals.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify technical limitations of standard linear accelerators in delivering ablative radiation dose for pancreas cancer.
  • Describe the advanced capabilities of MR-linacs that enable safe ablation of pancreas cancer.
  • Recognize expected outcomes after standard versus ablative radiation therapy doses for locally advanced pancreas cancer.
