Learning Objectives
- Differentiate between screening and severity exams, and perform neuro exams effectively, considering complications and pitfalls.
- Communicate more effectively with the Stroke team and assess patients accurately upon first encounter, focusing on key aspects of the NIH Stroke Scale.
- Recognize and manage strokes quickly to reduce the risk of dementia and identify stroke mimics and post-stroke dementia mechanisms.
- Identify and describe seizures, differentiate them from strokes, and manage seizure complications, including intractable cases.
- Describe the physiology of perfusion and intracranial pressure with varying head positions and discuss the Zodiac trial results for large vessel obstructions.
- Discuss the incidence and pathophysiology of chronic subdural hematoma (cSDH) and the role of MMA embolization based on new data.
