Recognizing Impairment in the Workplace (Florida Board of Nursing)
Designed specifically for nurses, this course will provide guidance on how to protect patients and assist colleagues who are struggling with substance use disorder (SUD). Learners will review legal and ethical professional obligations, gain a better understanding of the disorder and learn how to encourage successful recovery outcomes.
A score of 70% or higher is required for course completion.
This course meets the Florida Board of Nursing 2.0 contact hour requirement, meant to be completed after 08-01-17 and every four years thereafter.
Target Audience
Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), Registered Nurses (RN), and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN).
Learning Objectives
- Clarify substance use disorder and signs of impairment in the healthcare environment.
- Examine the role of the employer in promoting patient safety and providing assistance.
- Determine the steps for mandatory reporting when impairment is suspected.
- Explain the treatment programs available to support impaired practitioners.
- Describe the successful recovery from substance use disorder and return to practice.
