Live Symposium | 18.5 Cat. 1
Thursday-Saturday, November 2-4, 2023
Hilton Miami Dadeland, Miami, Florida

This symposium offers a broad curriculum focusing on state-of-the-art, evidence-based practices for clinicians and healthcare professionals who treat and care for neuroscience patients from the emergency department through rehabilitation. The expert faculty will engage participants through complex cases, novel treatment strategies and lively panel discussions. The goal of the program is to share the most innovative and evidence-based clinical practices that have been implemented and are available to optimize patient outcomes throughout all areas of neuroscience.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this symposium, participants should be better able to:

  • Analyze the components of the comprehensive neurological exam.
  • Describe the pathology and management of posterior circulation stroke events.
  • Outline the acute evaluation and management of the patient with hemorrhagic stroke.
  • Differentiate between the various types of seizures and appropriate clinical management.
  • Recognize the various types of movement disorders.
  • Utilize current, evidence-based rehabilitation methods for stroke, traumatic brain injury (TBI) and other central nervous system (CNS) disorders.
  • Discuss spasticity management for TBI and CNS disorders.
  • Describe some of the breakthrough technologies in the rehabilitation of spinal cord injuries (SCI).
  • Address the rehabilitation challenges for SCI, stroke, TBI and CNS disorders.

Upon completion of this symposium, participants should be better able to:

  • Recognize, diagnose and manage inflammatory and non-inflammatory intracranial arteriopathies.
  • Select the best treatment strategy for patients with acute ischemic stroke and tandem occlusions.
  • Describe the benefit of minimally invasive surgery for acute intracranial hemorrhage.
  • Select patients who may benefit from minimally invasive surgery for acute intracranial hemorrhage.
  • Identify neurological patients who would benefit from advanced therapies, including surgical options.
  • Explain the treatment benefits and risks associated with high-intensity focused ultrasound.
  • Identify patients who would benefit from deep brain stimulation.
  • Describe multiple sclerosis basic diagnostic and treatment algorithms.
  • Classify patients with headaches to determine individualized management.
  • Describe the medical management and surgical treatment options for epilepsy.
  • Identify patients who could benefit from chemodenervation.
  • Describe movement disorders basic diagnostic and treatment algorithms.

Upon completion of this symposium, participants should be better able to:

  • Apply the current guidelines for spine surgery.
  • Recognize the benefits of using outpatient services for spine treatment and describe how tracking patient outcomes can provide patient-centric care.
  • Recognize the newest applications for robotics in spinal surgery.
