The College of American Pathologists (CAP) has specific requirements for eye pH testing in hospitals, outlined in their checklist item POC.06875. Here are the key points:

Test Procedure: Hospitals must have a documented procedure for eye pH testing. This includes the method used, the type of pH paper or meter, and the steps for performing the test.
Quality Control: Regular quality control checks are required to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the pH testing equipment. This includes calibration of pH meters and verification of pH paper.
Training and Competency: Personnel performing eye pH tests must be properly trained and demonstrate competency. This involves initial training and periodic assessments to ensure ongoing proficiency.
Documentation: All test results must be documented in the patient’s medical record. This includes the pH value obtained, and any actions taken based on the results.
Safety and Infection Control: Proper safety and infection control measures must be followed during the testing process to protect both the patient and the healthcare provider.
These requirements help ensure that eye pH testing is performed accurately and safely, contributing to effective patient care.
