ForwardEchocardiography and Noninvasive Vascular Testing Lecture Series: Lower Extremity Screening for PAD: What Every Physician Should Know
Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a common condition affecting the lower extremities, characterized by narrowing or blockage of the arteries that supply blood to the legs. This lecture on PAD provides a comprehensive overview of the disease, focusing on its diagnosis, clinical manifestations and noninvasive vascular evaluation. Attendees will gain insights into the pathophysiology of PAD, the risk factors and the latest diagnostic criteria. The lecture will also cover the various noninvasive diagnostic techniques, including ankle-brachial index (ABI) measurements, Doppler ultrasound and advanced imaging modalities. This session aims to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively identify and manage patients with PAD.
Target Audience
Cardiologists, vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, echocardiography and noninvasive vascular testing specialists, nurses, sonographers, pharmacists, respiratory therapists.

Learning Objectives
- Identify the major risk factors and their contributions to the development of peripheral artery disease (PAD).
- Describe the common signs and symptoms of PAD and differentiate PAD from other conditions with similar presentations.
- Interpret ankle-brachial index (ABI) measurements and PVR analysis.
- Describe the role of Doppler ultrasound in diagnosing PAD.
- Evaluate the use of advanced imaging techniques in PAD diagnosis.
- Outline the current guidelines for the medical and interventional management of PAD.
- Discuss lifestyle modifications and pharmacological treatments.
- Develop a comprehensive management plan tailored to individual patients.
