Overview

Since 1980, the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and American Heart Association (AHA) have translated scientific evidence into clinical practice guidelines to improve cardiovascular health.

Join us as Eli Friedman, M.D., provides an in-depth review of the 2024 AHA/ACC Guideline for the Management of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. This guideline, developed using systematic methods to evaluate and classify evidence, serves as a foundation for delivering high-quality cardiovascular care, improving care coordination and enhancing communication with patients and families.
 

Target Audience

Cardiologists, vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, echocardiography and noninvasive vascular testing specialists, nurses, sonographers, pharmacists, respiratory therapists.

American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography - Sonographers and vascular technologists may use these credits to fulfill their ARDMS requirements. The ARDMS accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
 

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the importance of shared decision-making in optimizing clinical care for patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).
  • Implement appropriate evaluation, treatment and longitudinal care strategies, including referral to multidisciplinary HCM centers with specialized expertise.
  • Incorporate family history assessment, genetic counseling and discussion of genetic testing options into the management of patients with HCM. 
  • Evaluate a patient’s risk for sudden cardiac death as a critical component of disease management.
