Conversations in Ethics: Identifying and Addressing Spiritual Pain and its Impact on Patient Care - September 15, 2017
Patients' spirituality and religiousness can influence their healthcare outcomes including coping, quality of life, and pain management. Experience teaches us that some forms of pain are more easily identifiable than others and that some are more easily treated than others. The available data examining the impact of spiritual care provided by medical teams on patient outcomes demonstrates the positive impact of spiritual support by the medical team on patient and family quality of life. We seek to address the whole person and must be prepared to consider that our patients may be suffering from spiritual pain. This presentation will explore the reality of spiritual pain and how best to address it in the clinical setting.
