ForwardWhole Person, Whole Health: The Science of Spirituality in Care
Spirituality plays a foundational role in how many individuals find meaning, cope with illness and navigate life’s challenges. Holistic healthcare recognizes the importance of caring for the whole person — body, mind, spirit and emotions — to promote optimal health, healing and well-being. Through evidence-based discussions and clinical case applications, participants will learn to recognize and address both the spiritual resources that promote healing and the spiritual struggles that may complicate recovery. Additionally, the course will explore the integration of spirituality and religion with character strengths and virtues to support human flourishing.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this conference, participants should be better able to:
- Identify the heritable dimensions of natural spirituality and summarize the supporting scientific evidence.
- Describe the stages of spiritual development and explain their relationship to developmental depression.
- Apply current evidence on the protective benefits of spirituality in addressing depression, addiction and suicide risk through clinical case formulation.
- Integrate principles of spirituality and religion with character strengths and virtues to promote human flourishing and enhance patient-centered care.
