Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute Grand Rounds: Evaluating and Treating Dyslipidemia in the Cardiometabolic Syndrome

Cardiometabolic syndrome is a constellation of metabolic dysfunction characterized by insulin resistance and impaired glucose tolerance, atherogenic dyslipidemia, hypertension and intra-abdominal adiposity (IAA). The components of this syndrome individually and interdependently are strong risk factors for high cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.  This course will provide an overview of the components of metabolic syndrome, as well as evidence-based recommendations for adequate management. 

Target Audience

Cardiologists, Endocrinologists, Family Physicians, General Internists, Psychologists, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses and Laboratory Personnel, Respiratory Therapists as well as other interested healthcare professionals.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify the components of the Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) and recognize the typical lipid profile in MetS.
  • Review the general principles in the various lipid guidelines.
  • Implement evidence-based recommendations for non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic lipid therapies in MetS.
  • Assess recent evidence for lipid intervention beyond statins.
