Depression Screening and Management
Fewer than one-third of patients with depression will be accurately diagnosed, which means there is an opportunity for primary care physicians to play a critical role in the identification and early intervention of this patient population. Treating depression effectively can improve other medical conditions, including diabetes, heart failure, COPD and several other chronic illnesses. This course provides learners with tools developed in an evidence-based, data-driven, team-based empowerment program designed to identify and treat patients with depression. Physician resources and algorithms of care are included in this course.
Target Audience
Primary Care Physicians, Social Workers, Physician Assistants, Nurses and Nurse Practitioners.
Learning Objectives
- Screen patients for depression and implement strategies to identify atypical presentations of depression.
- Implement guideline-concordant care utilizing the depression treatment algorithm discussed to improve patient outcomes.
- Consider medication side effects when recommending pharmacological interventions for depression.
