Dental Oncology Conference Series – Pre Stem Cell Transplant Dental Clearance
This course will review the need for dental clearance prior to stem cell transplantation. It will provide a checklist that can be used by the general dental practitioner as a guide for conditions that must be taken care of prior to transplantation. Blood count values of interest to the dental practitioner will be discussed, along with a timeline for treatment prior to transplantation. It will also provide a list of items that may be considered for patients undergoing stem cell transplantation, along with relevant oral hygiene instructions to help prevent dental infections during the post-transplantation time period.

Primary Care Physicians, Dentists, Otolaryngologists, Gastroenterologists, Radiologists, Medical Oncologists, Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons, Surgeons, Pathologists, Hospitalists, Nurses, Nutritionists and Speech Pathologists.

- Explain relevant CBC values as they pertain to dentistry.
- Identify relevant dental conditions that must be addressed prior to transplantation.
- Implement the use of the dental checklist.
- Execute the in-patient dental recommendations during the post-transplantation time period.
