  • Prescribe a safe and effective plan for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) prevention in hospitalized patients.
  • Explain to patients that the cause of DVT/PE is “clotting tendency.”
  • Prescribe novel oral anticoagulants (NOAC’s) to treat patients with DVT/PE.
  • Weigh presumed benefit against risk for long-term “maintenance” anticoagulants.
