Advanced Concepts in Fetal Monitoring
Advanced fetal heart monitoring is intended as ongoing education for OB/GYN's, Certified Nurse Midwives and OB ARNP's. Fetal monitoring terminology, fetal and maternal pathophysiology, and care and interventions will be discussed in order to improve patient outcomes.
Target Audience
Obstetricians, Gynecologists, Nurse Practitioners (General), Physician Assistants, Nurse Midwives and all other interested healthcare professionals.
Learning Objectives
- Utilize appropriate NICHD terminology to identify characteristics of fetal heart rate strips, and improve labor communication between providers and nurses.
- Describe physiological goals for the laboring patient as reflected in fetal monitoring patterns.
- Interpret the fetal monitoring patterns that indicate the need for critical interventions.
- Identify factors that affect the maternal-fetal oxygen pathway and the potential for adverse outcomes.
