COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Orthopedic grand rounds create a structured platform for knowledge sharing, peer review, interdisciplinary discussion, and continuous professional development. This approach is designed to enhance clinical decision-making and improve patient care quality across the orthopedic practice. Many orthopedic surgeons and allied healthcare providers have limited exposure to emerging evidence, evolving surgical techniques, and multidisciplinary approaches within subspecialties. Grand rounds help bridge these gaps by fostering collaboration and continuous learning.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Orthopedists, internists, family medicine practitioners, emergency medicine physicians, urgent care physicians, podiatrists, physician assistants, athletic trainers, nurse practitioners, residents, medical students and all other interested healthcare providers.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Identify the pathophysiology of knee pain targeted by genicular artery embolization (GAE), including the role of synovial inflammation and neovascularization in chronic pain conditions.
- Classify the vascular anatomy relevant to GAE, with emphasis on genicular arterial supply and key anatomic variations that impact procedural planning.
- Perform the technique of GAE, including patient selection, procedural steps, embolic agents, and peri-procedural considerations.
- Evaluate and apply current clinical evidence for GAE to guide treatment decisions, integrate this modality into practice where appropriate, and optimize patient outcomes.
