COURSE DESCRIPTION

Strokes remains a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Acute therapies for stroke patients are constantly evolving with clinical outcomes being highly time-dependent.  Diagnosis and treatment are characterized by specific competencies that have to be applied in an emergency situation, and within an interdisciplinary team.

In Baptist Health’s unique simulation training program, participants practice cognitive and technical skills on stroke care protocols and procedures. The interactive simulation models are developed to respond to participants’ actions through role playing. Immediate debriefing allows multidisciplinary teams to reflect on their communication, actions and overall performance in patient assessment, team communication, time management and implementation of standardized care.

TARGET AUDIENCE

Neurologist, emergency medicine physicians, nurses, social work, emergency medical services and stroke team members.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Demonstrate proficient interdisciplinary team communication and effective time management.
  • Perform appropriate patient assessments to determine patient eligibility for acute reperfusion treatments.
  • Implement standardized Baptist Health stroke program acute care algorithms in common clinical scenarios.
