The Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support (PALS) One-Day Renewal Course is designed for licensed, experienced healthcare providers refreshing their knowledge and certification. This course intended for those with a working knowledge of rhythm recognition, clinical & pharmacological management of pediatric emergencies. The PALS-renewal is a fast-paced & challenging course designed for healthcare providers that either direct or participate the resuscitation of a patient regularly. Participants must have a current AHA PALS provider card. 

This class requires the completion of the American Heart Association’s PALS Precourse Self-Assessment and Precourse Work. A four (4) hour module comprised by multiple video-lessons and a pre-assessment test prior to the participation in the live session. The live session is four (4) hours and includes practice and assessment in a classroom environment.

Providers who take the PALS Renewal Course must be proficient in the following:

• Performing BLS CPR skills using the 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC.
• Demonstrating basic EKG interpretation.
• Demonstrate knowledge of pharmacological concepts and competent administration of cardiac drugs used during PALS.
• Performing the BLS Primary Survey and the PALS Secondary Survey. 
• Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support management.

Cancellations

• Refunds will be given, minus the cost of the electronic materials which are non-refundable, to those who call to cancel at least 72 hours in advance.
• No refunds will be given for cancellations made within the 72 hours prior to the start of the class or if the registrant does not attend the class.
   

Attendance Requirements:

Students must present the AHA’s ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment and Precourse Work certificate of completion to participate in class. Students must attend all sessions of the course and pass all the skills tests and the written test to receive a completion card. The class starts promptly at the scheduled time. Students must arrive 30 minutes prior to scheduled start time for registration and screening purposes.  No one will be allowed in class after it has started. 
 
NOTE: Live education sessions involve working in proximity of fellow students. You will be unable to participate in the live session if you are in the active stages of an infectious disease or have reason to believe you have been exposed to an infectious disease, or have sores on the hands, mouth, or face.
 

Target Audience
The AHA developed the PALS Provider Course for currently active healthcare providers (e.g., medical, nursing, emergency medical or allied health personnel) whose daily occupation or volunteer activities demand proficiency in the knowledge and skills of PALS. A current provider card is required for the renewal course.

• Identification and treatment of medical conditions that place the child at risk for cardiac arrest.
• The systematic approach to pediatric assessment, including general, primary, secondary, and tertiary assessments.
• The assess-categorize-decide-act approach to assessment and management of the seriously ill child.
• PALS algorithms and flowcharts.
• Effective resuscitation team dynamics.
