Baptist Health South Florida’s Conversations in Ethics February lecture will promote the empathy and compassion values in the health professionals, researchers and policymakers that may impact the health and well-being of patients, families, and communities.

Target Audience

Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Pharmacists and Techs, Respiratory Therapists(direct delivery), Dietitians, Social Workers, Clinical Chaplains, Medical Students and other interested healthcare professionals. 

Learning Objectives

  • Recognize the limitations of empathy and compassion that are associated with more prosocial behavior in interpersonal relations.
  • Define empathy as the ability to sense, feel and understand another's emotions, and define compassion as an emotional response to another’s pain or suffering involving an authentic desire to help.
  • Discuss training that can have a beneficial impact on self-reported feelings of positive affect, personal resources and well-being.
