COURSE DESCRIPTION:  

Twenty years ago, following the September 11 attacks, the United States suffered a premeditated act of bioterrorism. With the postal service as a resource, anthrax spores were widely spread from coast to coast, leading to morbidity and mortality and successfully disrupting our way of life and revealing our vulnerability. To address the question of whether we as a nation are now better prepared for future threats involving biologic agents, Dr. Bush will discuss the lessons learned from the 2001 anthrax attacks as well as the critical role of clinicians in surveillance particularly those involved in diagnosing anthrax in individuals and alerting authorities. 

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Internal Medicine Physicians, Physician Assistants, Residents,  Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, Pharmacists and all other interested healthcare providers. 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Review and discuss Class ‘A’ CDC List of bioterrorism agents.
  • Recognize, diagnose, and treat anthrax.
  • Discuss the Who, What, and Where of USA bioterrorism.
