COURSE DESCRIPTION:
With the launch of new Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs at MCI, MNI, and MCVI, Baptist Hospital is entering a significant phase in its academic and teaching mission. Program Directors (PDs) and Associate Program Directors (APDs) in these programs are in the early stages of their leadership roles. As a result, there is a critical opportunity to provide targeted training in advanced GME competencies, particularly in the organizational, operational, and strategic skills required to lead newly established, accredited programs. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between clinical expertise and educational leadership by equipping new leaders with the foundational knowledge and management frameworks necessary to effectively oversee complex administrative and academic responsibilities.

TARGET AUDIENCE:
This activity is designed for program directors and associate program directors of Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs at FIU-Baptist Health GME, as well as physicians and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients in academic and clinical settings.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Apply principles of systems thinking to analyze and optimize the structure, processes, and interdependencies within a Graduate Medical Education program, with the goal of improving program effectiveness and learner outcomes.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans using established organizational and management frameworks to support the successful launch and sustainability of newly accredited residency programs within Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education requirements.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritize and integrate responsibilities by effectively managing competing clinical, administrative, and educational demands during the initial phases of residency program development, using structured decision-making and time management strategies.
