COURSE DESCRIPTION: 

There exists significant variability in the determination of brain death/death by neurologic criteria (BD/DNC). This education with address common gaps related BD/DNC including inconsistent application of diagnostic criteria, uncertainty regarding prerequisites and apnea testing, variability in use and interpretation of ancillary studies, and limited familiarity with legal and ethical standards surrounding BD/DNC determination as these inconsistencies can lead to delayed or inaccurate determination, unnecessary testing, communication challenges with families, increased moral distress among clinicians, and potential risks to patient safety and public trust.

Critical Care Grand Rounds is a monthly multidisciplinary conference series designed to provide up-to-date, informative lectures on timely topics aimed at enhancing critical care practice and improving patient outcomes. Presentations are delivered by experts within the Baptist Health South Florida System as well as visiting professors specializing in various aspects of ICU care.

Critical Care Physicians, Cardiologists, Surgeons, Anesthesiologists, Emergency Medicine Physicians, Nephrologists, Pulmonologists, Infectious Disease Physicians, Neurologists, Gastroenterologists, Hospitalists, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, Pharmacists and other interested healthcare providers.
