Despite the ambition to end preventable maternal deaths by 2030, the world will fall short of this target by more than 1 million lives with the current pace of progress. According to the WHO, almost all global maternal deaths can be prevented by ensuring that women have access to quality, respectful and equitable maternity care.

Please join us for the Tenth Annual Omar Pasalodos, M.D., Memorial Lecture, presented in collaboration with Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and the Health Foundation of South Florida. Sharmila K. Makhija, M.D., will discuss the maternal mortality rate and leading causes in Florida, the impact that racial and ethnic disparities have on maternal outcomes and strategies to incorporate birth equity education into medical practice.
