COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Join us for a focused CME session on "From Vaso-Occlusion to Organ Failure: Managing Acute Complications of Sickle Cell Disease," presented by Dr. Cole Oladipo, M.D., MBA. In this session, Dr. Oladipo will review the clinical presentation and underlying pathophysiology of common acute complications of sickle cell disease, including vaso-occlusive crises, acute chest syndrome, stroke, and splenic sequestration. Participants will explore evidence-based approaches to evaluation, acute management, transfusion strategies, and escalation of care in emergency and inpatient settings. The lecture will also highlight multidisciplinary and preventive interventions aimed at reducing morbidity, mortality, and recurrent hospitalizations among individuals living with sickle cell disease.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Recognize the clinical presentation and pathophysiology of common acute complications of sickle cell disease, including vaso-occlusive crises, acute chest syndrome, stroke, and splenic sequestration.
- Apply evidence-based strategies for the evaluation and management of acute sickle cell disease complications in both inpatient and emergency care settings.
- Identify indications for blood transfusion, exchange transfusion, and escalation of care in patients with severe or life-threatening sickle cell disease complications.
- Implement multidisciplinary approaches and preventive strategies to reduce morbidity, mortality, and recurrent hospitalizations among patients with sickle cell disease.
