This symposium offers a broad curriculum focusing on state-of-the-art, evidence-based practices for clinicians and healthcare professionals who treat and care for neuroscience patients from the emergency department through rehabilitation. The expert faculty will engage participants through complex cases, novel treatment strategies and lively panel discussions. The goal of the program is to share the most innovative and evidence-based clinical practices that have been implemented and are available to optimize patient outcomes throughout all areas of neuroscience.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this symposium, participants should be better able to:
Day 1 - Thursday, November 3
- Review updated guidelines in the management of acute stroke.
- Describe the implications for thrombolytic therapy in acute stroke management.
- Recognize the importance of critical care management of the neurologically ill patient.
- Evaluate and manage patients with spine-related pathology.
- Describe the impact of the COVID-19 virus on stroke and stroke management.
Day 2 - Friday, November 4
- Examine recent advances in stroke rehabilitation.
- Recognize new data regarding the effects of hypothermia after cardiac arrest.
- Review key aspects of brain death determination.
- Describe current diagnostic and treatment approaches to normal pressure hydrocephalus.
- Review key concepts in secondary prevention of stroke.
- Optimize patient selection for intravenous thrombolysis and endovascular treatment.
- Diagnose and manage common complications encountered in the neuro ICU.
- Apply appropriate thrombosis prevention and management in COVID-19.
Day 3 - Saturday, November 5
- Identify patients who would benefit from high intensity focused ultrasound.
- Explain the treatment benefits and risks associated with high intensity focused ultrasound.
- Identify patients who would benefit from deep brain stimulation.
- Explain the treatment benefits and risks associated with deep brain stimulation.
- Describe the medical management and surgical treatment options for epilepsy.
- Differentiate epilepsy treatment options available for children and adults.
- Review the current guidelines for spine surgery.
- Recognize the benefits of using outpatient services for spine treatment and describe how tracking patient outcomes can provide patient centric care.
