Miami Cancer Institute Multispecialty Grand Rounds: Unplanned Excision of Soft Tissue Sarcomas

Soft tissue sarcomas are a rare type of malignancy.  Representing less than 1% of adult cancers.  They typically present as benign masses and Pre-operative work up is not done.  This can ultimately affect the patient’s outcome.

During this lecture, Dr. Pretell will discuss treatment strategies for patients that underwent an unplanned excision of a soft tissue sarcoma.

Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, Hematology Oncologists, Radiation Therapists, Endocrinologists, Pulmonologists, Otolaryngologists,  General Surgeons, General Practitioners, Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Nurses, Social Workers, Patient Navigators and all other interested healthcare professionals.

Learning Objectives

  • Assess the incidence of soft tissue sarcomas and compare it to benign soft tissue masses. 
  • Identify the characteristics of suspicious soft tissue sarcomas and how to approach patients with a soft tissue mass. 
  • Implement appropriate treatment strategies for patients that underwent an unplanned excision of a soft tissue sarcoma.
