COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Please join us for a conference on The Hidden Cost of Penicillin Allergy, with expert faculty Amy B. Schiffman, M.D., who will provide a comprehensive and clinically practical review of penicillin allergy evaluation and management. Through this session, clinicians will gain insight into the epidemiology and economic impact of penicillin allergy labeling, along with a focused review of the relevant immune mechanisms underlying beta-lactam hypersensitivity.

Dr. Schiffman will discuss the pathophysiology of penicillin and other beta-lactam allergies, outline current diagnostic testing procedures, and review the predictive value, safety, and efficacy of testing across key patient subpopulations. The course will also examine cephalosporin cross-reactivity and its implications for antibiotic prescribing in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

This activity is designed to equip physicians with evidence-based tools to more accurately assess penicillin allergy, optimize antimicrobial use, and improve patient care.
