COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Standards for hospitalists in point-of-care ultrasound training and assessment are not well established, and most internal medicine residency training programs have only begun to incorporate POCUS in their curricula. Internal medicine residents lack background and historical context of POCUS. This knowledge gap limits their ability to contextualize current training expectations, credentialing requirements, and clinical applications in hospital medicine practice.

TARGET AUDIENCE:
Physicians, Baptist Hospital Medical Staff, pharmacists, nurses, and medical residents

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Describe the historical development of point-of-care ultrasound as a bedside tool in clinical practice
  • Identify key technological advancements that enabled the expansion of POCUS applications from procedural guidance to diagnostic imaging
  • Apply knowledge of POCUS evolution to understand current training, credentialing, and clinical integration standards in hospital medicine
