COURSE DESCRIPTION
Patient safety and high-quality care are a top priority for healthcare organizations, providers, and staff. Yet, even with a strong focus on these principles, errors and untoward events can occur, leaving those involved with the difficult task of determining what information — and how much — to disclose. This simulation course is designed to help participants promptly identify unanticipated events warranting disclosure to patients and/or their families and implement the disclosure of unanticipated outcomes procedure as described in Baptist Health policies.

TARGET AUDIENCE
Physicians, Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, Nurses, Risk Managers, Hospital Administrators. Patient Safety Officers, Social Work and all staff required to assist with a disclosure.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Promptly identify unanticipated events warranting disclosure to patients and/or their families and implement disclosure of unanticipated outcomes procedure as described in Baptist Health policies.
  • Explain the outcome of any treatment or procedure to the patient and, when appropriate, the patient’s family or representative, whenever those outcomes differ significantly from the anticipated outcomes or results in serious harm.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
