Virtual Symposium | Zoom

The Marcus Neuroscience Institute EMS Knock Out Stroke Symposium is designed to provide attendees with relevant information regarding new developments in and approaches to the management of stroke events. This symposium will provide clinicians with in-depth reviews of the latest science and cutting-edge advances in the treatment of venous strokes, embolization with subdural hematomas, seizures, aphasia and thrombectomies. Please join us for this free full-day symposium.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this symposium, participants should be better able to:

  • Discuss the use of a stroke screening tool and a large vessel obstruction (LVO) screening tool in the pre-hospital setting.
  • Describe posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) in patients experiencing a hypertensive crisis.
  • Identify risk factors and discuss the physiology of central venous thrombosis and stroke.
  • Describe how the use of family cards being handed to family members of suspected strokes facilitate the process and allows for faster door-to-needle times.
  • Describe some unusual presentations of acute stroke and discuss how to recognize the stroke.
  • Compare and contrast vascular dementia following a stroke and Alzheimer's dementia.
  • Discuss the process of embolization of the middle meningeal artery (MMA) in patients with subdural hematomas (SDH).
  • Identify advances in artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare and discuss the utilization of AI in strokes and seizures.
  • Discuss the presentation of seizures in patients with stroke-like symptoms, distinguishing this from a stroke mimic or a complication of a stroke.
  • Identify the different types of aphasia and describe the location of the stroke.
  • Discuss the new research on “head of the bed flat” to improve clinical presentation in patients with LVO.
