Personalized medicine helps doctors learn about a person’s genetic makeup and how their tumors grow.  This symposium will provide an update on the state of the art treatment of oral, head and neck cancers. In addition, “Hot Topics” in immunotherapy, HPV-related cancers, thyroid cancer, and proton therapy will be discussed in a multidisciplinary format.

Learning Objectives

  • Implement treatment plans of early stage clinically node negative oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma. 
  • Discuss the difference between a pedicled and free flap and describe a clinical situation in which one is more appropriate than the other for reconstruction. 
  • Assess recurrent metastatic disease, improved selection for salvage and novel systemic therapies under development. 
  • Describe pathogenesis, clinical features, oral manifestations and histology of bacterial infections of the oral cavity.  
  • Identify classic forms of skin cancer and equivocal lesions.
